Requesting Support

JointsWP is meant to be a starting point for WordPress themes. It’s designed to be heavily customized for whatever your specific project needs. This makes offering support for JointsWP extremely difficult – especially after heavy modifications.

If you find a bug or something that just doesn’t seem right, I encourage you to report it as an “Issue” in the GitHup repo (Sass Link, CSS Link).

I can’t get codekit to compile CSS from Sass – I’ve tried running gulp too, but kept getting error messages there too. Any help very welcome – I am new to JointsWP, and thought this would be the best route in to using Sass with WordPress and Foundation, but can’t get going!

    • Jeremy Englert

I responded in to your other comment as well. Make sure you run “npm install” from the folder you have JointsWP in.

      • Penny Badowska

Thanks for your quick reply. I did run “npm install” from the correct folder. I think it is some problem on my computer as managed to get it to work on another one. Will keep probing.

  • Scott Morin

Hi. I need to modify the first and last items in the top-bar menu, but none of the usual combinations to zero in on the :active :first-child seem to hook it. I am losing my marbles. 🙂

  • AyeZee

Curious if you have ever played around with a transparent topbar and a full width image (hero)…The problem I run into is the topbar pushing the image down. I have played with z-index, absolute position, and negative margin….none of them are elegant solutions. Have any thoughts?

How to change gutter space in CSS version quickly?

  • Penny Badowska

How can I change the font in the navigation? I am using typekit, and it works across the rest of the site, but I can’t seem to target ul li > a. And the font there is italic, which I also don’t seem able to change. Any suggestions?

    • Jeremy Englert

Are you using the CSS or Sass version?

      • Penny Badowska

I’m using Sass. I also have a problem having fixed background images and the Off-Canvas working together – is there a way of re-working the Header so that fixed background images can work, or is it simpler to use Top Bar instead?

        • Jeremy Englert

Hi Penny, there’s an issue with Chrome and fixed backrgound when using the Offcanvas navigation. It stems from one of the CSS classes used in the off-canvas-wrap class.

That being said, the easiest sollution is to use the top-bar navigation. However, you will also need to remove the off-canvas wrap classes from the header (and the closing tags in the footer).

          • Penny Badowska

            Thanks for your speedy response

          • Penny Badowska

Sorry for endless questions, but now that I am using Top Bar, two burger bars appear – any reason, or shall I just check through foundation.css?

  • Colleen

Is there a way to disable the footer .article-footer from CSS version? I tried putting a {display: none!important} in the CSS but it’s still not doing the trick. I can’t figure out where in the php it’s pulling from.

    • Jeremy Englert

      On which page?

  • Robert Sanchez

Hi there, I’m trying to find how to change the class type produced by the following in comments.php. Each li element that is being produced has a class of “panel” which is making the style really funky. I’d like to take that class out from the comments. Any thoughts?

    • Jeremy Englert

You can edit that class here: /assets/functions/comments.php

  • susan

Hi there, Great theme – am loving using it. Just two things: First, the topbar. am using the topbar menu for mobile devices, not off canvas. Some of my menu items have dropdowns where the top level item is a pages. This works fine on desktop view but on mobile view the top level item is not clickable – when you click it, the dropdown list just slides in. Is there a way of making this work so that the you can view all pages on mobile view? Second the archive grid – works great for three items in first row. On subsequent rows if you only have two items they align left and right leaving an empty grid space in between, rather than aligning next to each other with the empty grid space at the end. Can’t work out how to fix this? Many thanks!

    • Jeremy Englert

You can set a data-attribute so that the parent item is included in the dropdown list after it is clicked. You’ll want to use:

      mobile_show_parent_link: true

You can read more about it here: http://foundation.zurb.com/docs/components/topbar.html

    • Jeremy Englert

To solve the grid issue, you’ll need to add an .end class to your columns. Check out the “Incomplete Rows” section here: http://foundation.zurb.com/docs/components/grid.html

      • susan

Many thanks for both these tips Jeremy – and for replying so promptly. You’ve been a great help! Susan

  • jkinley

    Jeremy,

I am trying to make the off-canvas-menu work on the right instead of the left. I have changed all the classes I can find in the off-canvas partials and in the walker, but I still can’t find the html for the back icons. I think I am missing one more. Any ideas?

  • jkinley

    Jeremey,

I looked into it some more, and I think it is just weird how Foundation has it implemented. It seems to me if you have a right multilevel off canvas, that the arrows should come after the link in the css; not before. I am not sure I am even going to mess with this as I am coming to not like top-bar so much. Think I may try using Pushy or another off-canvas JS. Any thoughts?

    • Jeremy Englert

I’ve never used any other JS menus. I’m not a huge fan of the multi-level off-canvas menu. I prefer to have my subpages simply listed under the main pages.

Note: Foundation 6 has much better navigation patterns.

      • jkinley

Yeah, I am hopeful for Foundation 6, but until then. Yes, I don’t like the multi-level off-canvas either. It wasn’t apart of JointsWP before. Is it easy to just get back to the normal off-canvas? Thanks!

  • jkinley

Jeremy, the off-site nav in Joints WP was not multi-level before. How do I just get back the standard off-canvas nav?

    • Jeremy Englert

In assets/functions/menu.php – remove the walker from the offcanavas navigation. That should get you pretty close to what you’re looking for.

  • Shannon Schärer

Hey Jeremy, just let me say that I love jointswp. I’m still a novice but I like to try new things. I tried to add motion ui to joints with no avail. 🙁 Have any suggestions? I also posted my question on stackoverflow: http://stackoverflow.com/q/33417317/2633374

    • Jeremy Englert

@shannonschrer:disqus, I haven’t attempted to install MotionUI with Joints. However, I’m currently working on JointsWP 4 which will include Foundation 6 and the new MotionUI.

      • Shannon Schärer

I’m kind of in a bind, so I guess I’ll have to do without… What’s the ETA of JointsWP 4?

        • Jeremy Englert

Can you provide a link? Have you tried manually installing instead of using NPM?

          • Shannon Schärer

I’m developing locally, so I guess I’m on my own. I’m going to try to install it with bower like Zurb U suggests see if I can get it running that way.

  • susan

Hi again Jeremy, another quick question. Can you give me a heads up on how to amend search.php just to show the search results page title and an excerpt rather than the full page/post Many thanks. Susan

  • susan

oops, just figured it out! Sorry for troubling you…

    • Jeremy Englert

Awesome – glad you got this worked out!

  • Chris Rubenstein

    Hi Jeremy,

    Thanks for a terrific product!

I have encountered a strange bug. When I disable comments on my posts, the sidebar disappears. Any help with this minor hiccup would be greatly appreciated.

  • Jack Fearing

Hi Jeremy, do you by chance know if Foundation’s motion UI supports animation on scroll events? For example, say I wanted an element to fade in or slide in when the user scrolls down the page rather then them clicking on a button to activate the animation.

  • Anthony G.

Hi Jeremy. Great work on the F6 release! So Good. Thank you for that…

I was wondering if you could add some date stamps on your documentation pages so that it is easier for us to know if any changes are made as a result of the new release?

    Cheers

    • Jeremy Englert

Hi @disqus_IjCaxmDved:disqus, that’s a great idea – I’ll try to get that implemented. For the most part, the docs should always refer to the most recent version available.

  • Jonas Schug

Great work!! Thank You for adding foundation 6 so fast!

  • Stu Maxwell

    Hi,

I’m having issues with sub-menus on medium and large displays , using the default nav-offcanvas-topbar included part , for some reason if I nest any submenus in wp-admin then the menu’s parent and submenus are no longer clickable , they all display correctly but just cannot be clicked. Pretty sure that it’s nothing that I have addd that has caused this, anyone else seeing the same behaviour ?

    Thanks,
    Stu

    • Jeremy Englert

This is a known bug in Foundation. They’re completely reworking the dropdown menu component. A new release should be available this week.

      • Stu Maxwell

Ah ok cool, thanks for the update. Great work on JointsWP by the way,

  • eileen

Hi Jeremy, hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. I am having issues getting a lightbox plugin (any of them) working on your latest JointsWP release with Foundation 6 and CSS. When I remove the first two functions in your enqueue-scripts.php file (Deregistering JQuery and Loading vendor files (jQuery and what-input by default) in footer) the lightboxes work fine. Would you know what the problem is (maybe the version of jQuery in the vendor.min.js?) and have any advice? I assume you are implementing the vendor.min.js for foundation features and I dont want to mess up the foundation functionality for the sake of the lighbox but it is a portfolio site and i need the lightbox. Ive tried NextGen, Simple Lightbox, Gallery Carousel Plugin without Jetpack—currently I have Responsive Lightbox by dfactory installed and this is where I figured out it works in other themes but not JointsWP. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    • Jeremy Englert

Hi eileen, I recently updated the enqueue-scripts.php file to call jQuery separately from other vendor files. It turns out some plugins have an issue “finding” jQuery when it is bundled with other files.

Check out the new file, you’ll see that What-Input and jQuery are being called separately: https://github.com/JeremyEnglert/JointsWP/blob/master/assets/functions/enqueue-scripts.php

If you still have issues after that, simply use the default version of jQuery that comes with WP. I haven’t tested F6 with that version of jQuery, but others have told me it works great.

Let me know if this helps!

      • eileen

Thanks for the tip! And thanks for for updating your Theme to Foundation 6 so quickly! I was so excited I downloaded it right away but wasn’t able to find the time to start a new project till now. Thanks again!

Hi, Having a real issue with adding body classes to the theme template for post_type_archive. I have posted at Stack Overflow but it would not allow me to tag the post JointsWP, so here’s the link http://stackoverflow.com/questions/34035685/wp-problems-with-add-body-class-in-functions-php-class-not-added

Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers, Tracy

    • Jeremy Englert

You shouldn’t have to do anything to get the body extra class.

I just did a quick test making a “properties” post type. I end up with a .post-type-archive-properties class in the body.

      • http://www.freelancealot.co.uk/ Freelancealot

Hi Jeremy, thanks for the quick response. I needed to get the page slug as a body class. If you take a look at the Stackflow post you will see the code in the functions file. I don’t think it’s specific to JointsWP just something to do with the functions for body class I’ve added (which all work except some the post-type-archive. I needed to be able to target each page in the CSS as each has a slightly different style.

My research shows that this problem with the archive page not working can be something to do with the loop not being ‘closed’ but I have closed the loop as far as I can see.

It’s a mystery I was hoping someone could enlighten me on.

        Cheers,
        Tracy

  • Jimmy Godin

Hi Jeremy, I have a topbar but when a dropdown menu-item is located to the very right of the screen, the dropdown menu (when hovering over it) is not showing straight under it but it shows more to the left-under. I can’t figure out why this is happening. A screen shot attached

    • Jeremy Englert

      @Jimmy Godin:disqus , this is a known bug.

      https://github.com/zurb/foundation-sites/issues/7251

Hopefully someone comes up with a fix soon.

      • Jimmy Godin

Hi, thanks for your quick response! Indeed, meanwhile I noticed the same bug using Foundation without WordPress. Glad it’s just a bug meaning that it wasn’t me who did something wrong…thank again…

  • jadennyberg

    Hey there, great theme!
I’m wondering if there is a way to change the Jquery to be called in the footer. I’m trying to implement Slick Slider without using a plugin and I believe that is why it doesn’t work. Thanks!

  • Dimension Internet

Hi again, with the latest release 6.0.6 and a fresh install, menu on mobile is going under “JointsWP Demo” regarding the css, has a “@media screen and (max-width: 39.9375em) .top-bar-right { width: 100%;}” and you don’t have it in your Demo. What is the “cleanest solution” to override this ?

    • Dimension Internet

I’ve added “width:inherit” on .top-bar-right and .top-bar-left in _main.scss and it seems to work correctly. I don’t know if it’s the cleanest solution.

  • Jake

Hi Jeremy! wrote here a comment ..is vanished so i’ll try to write it again.

    Thanks for JointsWP it’s awesome.
Am working on a site, and all was going well until i noticed some a tags are being placed for each parent element, weird ha?? Do you know of this issue? i s there a way to fix this? I really hope i wont have to rebuild the whole site 🙁
    Your input is much appreciated!!
    Jake

    • Jeremy Englert

@disqus_PibKZeItUU:disqus, I’m not sure I completely understand the problem. Do you have a link I can checkout?

      • Jake

Thanks for replying Jeremy, was just looking through the code to direct you to the spot and magically the problem is gone! I guess you work your magic in mysterious ways 🙂

  • Will

Jeremy, I have run a bower update via gulp and whilst I see the JS has been updated as far as I can see none of the default foundation SCSS has been. Further more I cannot see any command in gulpfile.js that instructs it to refresh its cached copy of the core foundation styles nor are they watched…relative newbie to gulp/bower so if I am missing something obvious do say. If not, then what do I need to do to get the latest Foundation styles to be included in my generated style.css file? Cheers, Will

    • Jeremy Englert

@disqus_nGCZymPcnh:disqus, trying running “gulp” after making your Bower updates. This should compile all of the new files.

You will also need to manually move the settings.scss file from /vendor/ into /assets/.

      • Will

Thanks Jeremy, I think I have tracked down the issue I was having to another area. In the bower.json file I had the dependency for foundation-sites set as “foundation-sites”: “~6.0.0”. I have now changed it to “foundation-sites”: “>6.0.0” and everything seems to be working as it should.

  • http://www.nextdoorchef.com Sam Panice

Are there any known issues with JointsWP and Slider Revolution?

I am having a hell of a time trying to figure out why my slider isn’t working. The error keeps telling me there are multiple instances of jQuery? Is this a known issue?

  • Tiziano

Hi Jeremy i’m having a problem with top bar sticky navigation… i’ve tried all things and also impossible things but still won’t work correctly or simply don’t work. I’ve also read the zurb’s documentation, but nothing seems to be working… please help me! 😀 thank you. Tiziano

    this is my code:

    <div class="title-bar" data-responsive-toggle="top-bar-menu" data-hide-for="”>

    <div class="top-bar-left show-for-“>
    …..

    • Jeremy Englert

      Can you provide a link?

      • Tiziano

Hi jeremy, i’ve finally resolved this problem… in my opinion Zurb documentation is a little bit confused because there is no design difference between documentation pages of foundation 5 and 6 … only a little banner in the header… so the problem was applying F5 rules to F6 structure… thanks for quick response and many thanks for creating JointsWp

        • Jeremy Englert

Glad you got it worked out!

  • Kinetic Pulse

Since adopting JointsWP with Foundation 6 I’m having a real problem with FOUC on the Topbar. I must have built about 10 sites using JointsWP and Foundation 5 and never had an issue, but the 2 F6 sites I’m working on seem to have a couple of seconds of totally unstyled topbar before load.

    Here’s an example of a WIP : http://iesl.kineticpulse-dev.co.uk/en/home/
    Any tips??

    • Jeremy Englert

That was fixed in a recent Foundation update – are you using an older version?

      • Kinetic Pulse

Maybe I am – it was a download of JointsWP from January. I’ll check the versions

      • Kinetic Pulse

Have you included it in the latest JointsWP download? I tried updating to Foundation 6.2 in current, but get all sorts of Top Bar compilation errors

  • Michael

Hi, love the joints WP, have used Foundation for a while, but new to WP. Wondering if you can help me please, I want to display posts from the current month only in the loop. I have searched for solution, but each one I try breaks the loop. Would really appreciate any help.

  • NielsPilon

Hi Jeremy, I suddenly have an issue with the older Foundation 5 theme. For some reasons the drop-down menu doesn’t work properly anymore. The submenu doesn’t show on hover but only on-click. Is there any fix for this or is upgrading to Foundation 6 the only option?

    • Jeremy Englert

This is odd – there is an option for this, have you tried setting it to “true” just to be sure?

      http://foundation.zurb.com/sites/docs/v/5.5.3/components/topbar.html

      • NielsPilon

No I haven’t but I’m quite sure that’s not the solution. Can’t recall where exactly in the theme files but there’s a function to add a ‘has-dropdown’ class to the ul when creating submenu items. That’s something that doesn’t function anymore for some reason. It happens on every site that I’ve created with JointsWP (Foundation 5 version) unfortunately and I guess that it’s also related to the off-canvas menu that isn’t working anymore. You can see an example at http://brabantmotorverhuur.nl/ when you hover the ‘meer’ menu item.

  • ellin

I need a little help. I built a site under the old version of joints, I think 2.2 and WP updated automatically on me last week and my top nav went all crazy. I couldn’t click on the dropdowns in a desktop browser. It would just refresh the page and/or go nowhere. The toggle wouldn’t work on mobile. I upgraded the foundation files manually and the desktop version was fixed. The mobile toggle wasn’t fixed. I plan to upgrade the entire site to the new joints blank theme, but was wondering if there was an interim solution that I’m missing. I’d like to set aside time to do the rebuild. All I can assume is that WP updated it’s JS and there is a conflict. Thoughts? Site is: http://twospirithealth.org/

    • Jeremy Englert

Hmmmm. I can’t see why a WP update would screw up the theme, unless the update is conflicting with a plugin somehow.

It looks like your theme is not loading any of the Foundation files. Is your Foundation folder missing or empty?

      • ellin

The folder was there and everything was in there. I replaced the entire foundation folder with a backup from a few months ago. Only one JS error now, but the dropdown navigation doesn’t work for desktop or mobile. From Niels post below it looks like something did break with the WP update. I guess I can try backing WP down a notch until I have time to rebuild.

        • Jeremy Englert

I’m taking a deep dive into this to try to figure out what went wrong. This is an older version of Joints, but it is still heavily used, so I would like to get this resolved.

        • Jeremy Englert

@disqus_giNJrBa15x:disqus can you chime in here: https://github.com/JeremyEnglert/JointsWP/issues/164

  • Emmi Gainar

I am wondering which grid is used? I would like to use the flex grid. Help very much appriciated (just started using Jointswp).

  • Jain Waldrip

Hi Jeremy, I’ve just installed Joints on a fresh install of WP, and while I’m showing content for the Offcanvas sidebar on the WP Widgets side, the Offcanvas menu itself is blank when I resize the browser window down to mobile sizes. Do I need to add or uncomment a line somewhere, or do I just need to put the widgets in manually by editing the PHP?

    • Jeremy Englert

Do you have a link I can check out?

      • Jain Waldrip

Sure! It’s at http://www.thenakedtailor.com. The pages show up in the offcanvas navbar, but the search button and other WP functions aren’t pulled in, although I explicitly added them.

  • dfvink

Hi! Somehow @media screen queries are not being loaded/used – implemented this the same way I used to.. Is this a know issue?

  • http://vesicadesign.co/ Samuel S.

Hi Jeremy, working on a new site with JWP/F6 SASS and am wondering what the best method is for centering the Top Menu. I have moved it below the logo, now need it to center. I found in Zurb’s docs the , however adding that to a container div in the nav-offcanvas-topbar.php is making no changes. Please help!

Thanks for building this! I’ve used JWP/F5 many times.

    • Jeremy Englert

.menu-center has to be set to the div directly outside of the call to the menu. See attached.

  • Branden

    Hey Jeremy,

I’ve been trying to turn the off canvas for top option off by using data-options=”force-top: false”,

    I’ve added it to

But my page still seems to scroll to the top when opening off canvas menu.

Any ideas where I’m suppose to add this?

  • Stacey Pine

    Hi Jeremy!
This is the 2nd project I have used Joints on and I am loving it so far. I can’t find anywhere information about the flex grid and how to enable this in the css version? My column ordering doesn’t seem to be working so I assume this isn’t enabled by default in the css version? Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

  • http://www.cfx-inc.com Brian Gomski

I just installed the theme and i’m using Codekit to compile my SCSS then moving the compiled css over to the theme. The problem is the theme isn’t using the style.css file. In the head of the doc it appends an “?ver=4.5.3” If I delete that my css works fine. I can’t figure out how or where the theme is getting the style.css from?

  • http://www.distrasdesigns.com Mike Distras

Really loved this, however currently having MAJOR headaches and issues with things displaying incorrectly in Safari on OSX/Mac.

Seen other people having a similar issue with foundation 6 + flex-grid, however unable to get ANY fix working!

Any help appreciated on instructions on how to enable flex-grid correctly with JointsWP!

  • Test Testington

Hows it? Does JointsWP support WooCommerce?

    • Jeremy Englert

      No reason it shouldn’t!

  • disqus_MWAFb7tI0u

How do you use custom page templates with this theme? The template I created is not showing up as an option on the page screen in admin view and I need to be able to give my client the option to select different templates. I’ve never worked with a theme that didn’t allow this and I can’t find anything in the docs or even googling.

    • Jeremy Englert

It works the same way it does in other themes. In fact, JointsWP includes a few custom templates.

      • disqus_MWAFb7tI0u

Thanks for responding so quickly! You beat me to responding to my own post that I figured out one of my devs actually deleted the index.php file and that was the cause of the problem. Anyway, I really appreciate the speedy response. I’m enjoying working with your starter theme thus far and I’m a pretty tough critic so hats-off to you!

  • Tom Legens

Hey Jeremy, is there something special that needs to be done to get data-equalizer-mq to work? I’ve tried using Foundation’s examples but I can’t get the breakpoints to not equalize on stack. My understanding is equalizing on stack was off by default.

    • Jeremy Englert

Have you tested on a regular Foundation install? Sounds like this may be a Foundation bug.

      • Tom Legens

I’ll test it out over the weekend. Can you confirm the breakpoint needed to be used should be “large”, “medium” etc and not something different?
